The People Behind the Stories

Meet the journalists, photographers, and community correspondents who make Pareng Media possible.

Community-driven journalism

Pareng Media is not a one-person operation. It is a collective effort by South Sudanese journalists, photographers, community correspondents, and digital media practitioners who share a common commitment to honest, community-centered reporting.

Our crew members are spread across South Sudan and the diaspora. Some are full-time journalists with years of experience. Others are community members who have been trained in basic reporting and contribute stories from their local areas. What unites them is a belief that South Sudanese communities deserve media that reflects their reality.

We do not publish individual names or photographs of our crew for security reasons, particularly for correspondents operating in sensitive areas. This is a standard practice for media organizations working in fragile contexts.

How our crew is organized

Editorial Leadership

The editorial leadership team sets the direction for Pareng Media's coverage, ensures adherence to our Code of Ethics, and makes final decisions on sensitive or high-impact stories. They are experienced journalists and community organizers who have worked in South Sudanese media for years.

Field Correspondents

Our field correspondents are the backbone of Pareng Media. They live in the communities they cover — from Juba and Bor to Nairobi and Omaha. They report on events as they happen, conduct interviews, and produce the ground-level journalism that makes our coverage authentic and trusted.

Photographers & Videographers

Our visual team captures the texture of South Sudanese life through photography and video. They document events, produce visual stories, and create the imagery that brings our reporting to life. Many are self-taught, and all are committed to ethical visual journalism.

Digital & Social Media Team

The digital team manages our online presence, ensures content reaches our audience across platforms, and engages with the South Sudanese community on social media. They are responsible for the website, social channels, and digital distribution of our content.

Community Correspondents

Community correspondents are volunteers and part-time contributors who send us tips, stories, and photographs from their local communities. They are the eyes and ears of Pareng Media in places where we do not have full-time staff. They are trained in basic reporting ethics and verification.

Diaspora Bureau

Our diaspora bureau covers South Sudanese communities outside of South Sudan and East Africa — in the United States, Canada, Australia, and Europe. They report on diaspora events, community organizing, cultural activities, and the unique challenges facing South Sudanese abroad.
